Comarnic Bypass

Comarnic Bypass

About the project:

UNDER CONSTRUCTION – Comarnic Bypass – SC FRASINUL SRL has begun executing a major project both for the company and for Romania’s road infrastructure network: “Complementary Road Access for A3 Comarnic Discharge.” This objective will significantly help ease traffic on DN1 – one of the busiest national roads in the country.

The project involves building a bypass around the city of Comarnic, in Prahova County, approximately 6 kilometers long with two traffic lanes. The works include constructing three new bridges, an overpass over the Prahova River and the Ploiesti–Brasov railway, as well as roundabouts at the intersections with DN1, designed to efficiently handle traffic generated by the bypass and the urban area.

Progress: 85%

The new infrastructure will ensure the connection between DN1 and the future Ploiești–Brașov highway (A3), through the western part of Comarnic, becoming a key element in the reconfiguration of regional traffic.

The project is being implemented based on a partnership between the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) and the Prahova County Council, signed in December 2022.

FRASINUL takes on the role of general contractor responsibly and guarantees the execution of works to the highest quality standards, actively contributing to the modernization of the national road infrastructure.

Technical Features

The Comarnic bypass is approximately 6 km long, with two traffic lanes, and is designed to bypass the city from the west. The project includes:

  • Construction of three new bridges;
  • Construction of an overpass over the Prahova River and the Ploiești–Brașov railway;
  • Arrangement of roundabouts at the intersections with DN1.

Project Status

The works on the Comarnic Bypass are progressing at a steady pace, with the project approaching its final execution stage.

So far, a series of essential works for the development and strengthening of the infrastructure have been completed:

  • Reinforced earth works with geogrids;
  • Retaining walls built both on direct foundations and on drilled piles;
  • Drainage and water collection channels, including discharge systems through retaining wall weep holes;
  • Concrete deck slabs for the 80 m span steel arch bridge, as well as those for the 60 m long steel structure overpass, important stages in the execution and strengthening of the engineering structures;
  • Main supporting and protective infrastructure of the route.

At present, the construction teams are carrying out anti-corrosion protection works on the retaining walls and other concrete elements, as well as the final interventions required to complete the project.

Each completed stage brings the project closer to commissioning. The Comarnic Bypass will improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and reduce travel times, contributing to the overall development and connectivity of the entire area.

Project Impact

The completion of the Comarnic bypass will significantly reduce congestion on DN1 and improve access to the tourist resorts in the Prahova Valley. This project reconfirms FRASINUL SRL’s capacity to implement complex national road infrastructure works.
