Innovation in Road Infrastructure: Experimental Section of Road Modernized in Bistrita-Nasaud County

At the beginning of autumn, a new landmark project in road infrastructure was launched in Bistrita-Nasaud County, marking a first for Romania. FRASINUL SRL, in partnership with MOL Romania and the designer Somes-Top-Grup, began the construction of an experimental section of approximately 2 kilometers along the Cociu – Mocod – Zagra route, part of the county road DJ172.

What makes this project truly special is the use of an innovative asphalt wearing layer – BA 16 RUL 45/80-65, a material based on rubber-modified bitumen. This mix includes about 85% bitumen and 15% powder obtained from used tires, representing a durable and eco-friendly solution for road infrastructure.

Major benefits of the new type of asphalt:

• Increased resistance to high temperatures, reducing the formation of ruts during the hot season;
• Improved road safety by shortening braking distances by up to 10%, which can help prevent accidents;
• Utilization of recyclable materials, especially rubber, offering a sustainable alternative in road construction.
